Sunday roast dinner at The Cutty Sark TavernI have written about this fantastic roast at The Cutty Sark Tavern in Greenwich in my Best Restaurants in London post so I was delighted to go again at the start of Feb. You can find the pub just a short walk along the river from the Old Naval Colleges – last time I also stumbled across a really cute cake workshop venue called Fair Cake nearby! It is best to book this place in advance or otherwise turn up when doors open at 12pm on Sunday as there is usually a queue. I had the roast chicken with beetroot, roast potatoes, swede mash, pigs in blankets and gravy which was so tasty and well cooked – heaven!

Valentine’s DayAh, the old V day. Some love it, some hate it. I think it is a fun excuse to do something whether you are in a relationship or not, even if it is just something like the cinema! This year I was full of a horrible cold so the boyf and I stayed in and cooked steak with salad and chips. Unfortunately the champagne in the photo stayed unopened as I couldn’t breathe to appreciate it!

London Fashion WeekI spent the weekend at London Fashion Week writing for Who’s Jack magazine and one of my favourite shows was definitely the Orla Kiely AW14 collection – the ‘raining cats and dogs’ idea was so cute. I also got the chance to attend the Jasper Garvida after-party at Movida thanks to Felicities PR!

Weekend in York: The boyfriend and I had been given a hotel voucher for Hotel Du Vin as part of our Christmas present so we decided to use it on a weekend in York. The hotel was really stylish and we were lucky enough to get the Suite at the top which was completely fabulous! It included a big, squishy king-sized bed, a roll-top bath, a chaise-lounge and a long walk in-shower, as well as touches like a Bose sound system and proper coffee machine. It was probably as big as our flat in London! York itself was lovely – you can read more about my time in York here

Lunch at The Good Life EateryI took a friend from Manchester here after seeing it pop up on Tanya Burr’s blog and I’m so glad I did! Though it was super small and squished, the food was incredible and all completely healthy. We both went for poached eggs on quinoa, kale and sweet potato with an almond pesto and I can definitely recommend it. Plus, if you go on a weekend you can walk it off around the cute little Sloane Square market and perhaps pick up some malteser fudge, as we may very well have done…

What did you get up to this February?

LFW AW14: Orla Kiely

16 Feb
It wasn’t only raining cats and dogs on the cobbles of Somerset House yesterday but also at the ever creative Orla Kiely AW14 showcase.
I am always excited to see what format the contemporary Irish designer will take for her showcase – one of my personal favourites was the jazz club creation for her AW12 collection – and this showcase certainly didn’t disappoint! As guests entered the space inside the old Central Saint Martin’s Building, they were greeted with a projection of the iconic Orla Kiely floral print cast over an outdoor bench and lamppost in the middle of the room. Hot tea and coffee in branded Orla Kiely mugs were passed around by staff which was a warming – and very welcome! – touch, before the lights dimmed and the show began. Suddenly, the floral projection turned into rain and puddles and models came out to a soundtrack of rain, miaowing cats and barking dogs (cuter than it sounds)!

Cats and dogs were very much the motif-du-jou for Kiely’s AW14 collection, whether it was the large black cat outline on a preppy roll-neck jumper or the small whimsical cat prints dotted all over the patent belted trench coats. Amidst these patterns were Kiely’s notorious retro floral prints as well as navy, green, pink and browns on pleated skirts, preppy jumpers and 60s style dresses. The outfits were layered with vintage-style fur coats or cute swing pea coats and teamed with chunky clog/brogue style shoes, gorgeous velvet collars, cute printed umbrellas and vintage-style satchel handbags, making this a wonderfully stylish homage to retro fashion. Hair and make-up were kept fresh and simple, with gently backcombed hair swept into a low side pony and dewy skin with coral cheeks.

The Orla Kiely AW14 show was as creative and unique as ever, with cute retro preppy styles teamed with the designer’s whimsical prints making it a welcome departure from the miserable weather outside (even if it was still raining cats and dogs inside). Another thumbs up from me!

LFW AW14 Day 2

16 Feb

The cobbles at Somerset House are getting filled with fashionistas, Proper Corn and Vita Coco water as another season of London Fashion Week starts again! I am down for the weekend covering shows for Who’s Jack magazine; yesterday I got to see the fabulous Orla Kiely AW14 show (read my review here) and plenty at Vauxhall Fashion Scout including Xiao Li (review here), Kiev Fashion Days (review here) and Hema Kaul (review here).

February is always a hard month to dress fashionably for in London and especially so this season with the gale-force winds and storms! I decided to go for a monochrome checked trench coat which I actually got years ago from the Clothes Show in Birmingham, a bright yellow mini skirt c/o Motel Rocks, a white shirt from Missguided and a black top from H&M. This is me with the rest of the Who’s Jack girls:

At the Felicities event at ME Hotel

During a break between shows, a couple of us went to visit the Felicities designer event at the rooftop bar of the 5* ME Hotel (see pic above). The ME Hotel is absolutely gorgeous and so chic – I can’t wait for the summer when it is warm enough to drink outside on the rooftop bar! Thanks to Felicities PR for having us.

After a stop off at Itsu, the girls and I went to the Jasper Garvida after-party at Movida, Oxford Circus. We were kindly treated to free drinks – thanks again to Felicities for organising a fabulous evening!

LFW: Day 1

18 Feb

It’s that time again! Time for designers, models, journalists, bloggers, photographers, buyers and event managers to descend upon Somerset House for London Fashion Week Aw12. I’m down here for the weekend writing for Who’s Jack magazine and thought I’d do a quick update on how day 1 has panned out so far!

Day 1:

The morning was typically chaotic as we queued in a busy foyer for our press passes before sorting out tickets and schedules. I managed to go to the shows by Bora Aksu, Orla Kiely and Ada Zanditon (seperate reviews to be posted shortly!)

The celeb spots throughout the day included Louise Redknapp in a chic dogtooth blazer, Sugarbabes’ Amelle Barrabah at the Freemason’s Hall in a stylish black ensemble and LFW regular Brix Smith-Start complete with Gladys the pug. Front row celebs included TOWIE’s Lydia Bright at the PPQ show and controversial star Kitty Brucknell at the Bora Aksu show.

I got a VIP pass to a launch party at Kensington Roof Gardens that evening so turned up with my Uni friend Sarah, complete with my laptop bag – snazzy. The venue was lush and we got free champagne on arrival (which was lucky as a glass of wine was £9 – bit pricey for Northern old me)! Celebs that turned up included Gabrielle from Made in Chelsea and the Elvis impersonator from Take Me Out! Unfortunately my camera had run out of battery and my phone camera is about 0.01MP so no snaps of me with them! After splashing out on wines, we were given more free champagne as they had run out of wine glasses and got to watch some bands, another fashion show and fireworks. And, like all good nights, we ended up in Macdonalds.

For Day 1 I wore a spring pastel inspired look! I wore my white Zara dress teamed with a sherbert pink blazer from H&M and boots from Select! This is me with the other Who’s Jack girls:
