Review: Caudalie Micellar Cleansing Water

29 Sep

Micellar Waters are good cleansing options for those who suffer with sensitive skin, as they are usually alcohol/soap free and don’t break the skin’s natural lipid barrier like more mass market foaming/rinsing cleansers. The micellar solution is basically a cluster of tiny oil molecules suspended in soft water which are hydrophobic and oil-loving, therefore absorbing dirt and make-up gently and with no need for rubbing or water to rinse it off. There are a number of French brands out there that offer effective micellar solutions and which are now available to buy in the UK, such as La Roche-Posay, Vichy and Nuxe. Bioderma is also a cult brand but can be hard to obtain outside of France.

I was kindly sent Caudalie’s Micellar Solution Cleansing Water to try which promises ‘this micellar water cleanses and removes make-up thoroughly yet gently. Its non-irritating formula is suitable for even the most sensitive skin, thanks to its soothing and hydrating active ingredients. Use morning and evening using a cotton pad to cleanse face and eyes’. It is soap-free, paraben-free, colouring-free and against animal testing.

I am so happy with the results-it really is one of the best micellar solutions that I have tested. It takes off makeup really well and is so soothing – I can even use it on my eyes to take off mascara without any stinging, itching or discomfort. It instantly makes my skin feel clean, soft, refreshed and toned and has not irritated it at all. I tend to use this just before using a deeper cleanser – usually La Roche-Posay’s Effaclar cleansing gel – and washing off as I believe that this is the best way to really remove dirt rather than just the surface appearance. You don’t need to use much each time; I tend to tip it twice onto a cotton wool pad and sweep across my face which does the trick. As you can see from the image above, I have used about half of it in three months so it is pretty long lasting.

It is worth saying though that I also gave this to my housemate to try (who suffers with sensitive skin) and she found that it didn’t work that well in taking her make-up off.

Overall, I am really pleased with this product and excited to try out more from Caudalie’s range. Have you ever used Caudalie products before? Do you have any favourites?
