I was recently approached by the lovely people at Money Supermarket to enter their fabulous Passion for Fashion competition. The competition involves submitting complete outfit ideas for 5 categories – office, party, first date, outdoor and casual – with each outfit costing no more than £200. So, without further ado, here are my entries!

I went for a cream studded shirt teamed with a black pleated skirt, black tights and chunky black studded boots to create a smart and practical yet edgy and fashion- forward office outfit. To inject a bit of colour I also added in a maroon jumper and a matching maroon bag. The best thing is that these items are all wardrobe staples and so can be mixed and matched with other items in your wardrobe to save you money! Plus, if after work drinks are sprung upon you, you can just whip off the tights and remove the jumper and hey presto, you are ready for the bar.

My party outfit is bright and bold whilst also being affordable. I teamed a neon pink dress with blue boots and a neon yellow clutch bag that fits perfectly with the neon/sports luxe SS12 trend as seen on the SS12 catwalks of Sass & Bide and Roksanda Ilincic. To keep it edgy and practical, I added in a black leather jacket and some chunky jewellery. The most expensive part of the outfit is actually the leather jacket which is a wardrobe staple that you can use year after year. Altogether, the aim of this outfit was to create an eye popping outfit that is bound to get you noticed at any party!

I tried to create a first date outfit that is flirty and romantic whilst also being modern and sophisticated. I chose this romantic trend as it is totally in keeping with SS12, with delicate chiffons and nude/peach colour schemes being seen on the SS12 catwalks of PPQ and House of Holland. I teamed an embellished collar textured top with a nude drop hem skirt and a cream blazer, accessorizing with a nude watch, chunky bangle, nude/camel clutch bag and chunky nude heels to keep it from being too girly. Best teamed with nude lips and smokey eyes.

For me, an outdoor outfit is about wearing layers to battle whatever elements the Great British Weather has in store! As this is most likely rain, I chose knee high quilted riding boots to keep protected from any puddles and sludge. I teamed a checked shirt and khaki army jumper with khaki jeans and a waxed jacket to create practical layers as well as to keep it modern by mixing the traditional English heritage trend with the military trend. The shearling backpack again mixes an old heritage style with a modern trend, as well as being the perfect place to store a mini umbrella.

Casual is all about comfort which I have tried to create with soft, chunky textures in this outfit. A cream chunky knitted jumper is a staple in any wardrobe and is perfect for those awkward transitional months. I put it with vintage high waisted Levi denim shorts – another wardrobe staple – a printed Navajo style scarf, soft chunky cable knit socks, tan boots and a tan bag. The soft textures, warm tones and subtle prints hopefully creates a comfy, casual outfit that is both fashionable and affordable.
