It is fair to say the designs were pretty cosmopolitan, coming from a Ukrainian born designer with Russian roots, now based in London and looking to St. Tropez for the inspiration behind her SS13 collection. Pastel geometric colour blocking was everywhere on her catwalk, as mint green was juxtaposed against pale pink, lilac and lemon, always popular colour choices for spring/summer.
Soft jersey maxi dresses, 60s style swing dresses, subtle pleating, delicate knits and vibrant cut-out swimsuits with vintage prints were the order of the day on the runway, all teamed with big, bold wedges and bright cats eye sunglasses as the St. Tropez goddess models walked down to a 60s inspired soundtrack.
The make-up and hair complimented the collection, with soft Bardot-inspired beehive hair and Vidal Sassoon-esque geometric cuts sitting above colourful flicked feline eyes in oranges, pinks and electric blues.
Ekaterina Kukhareva’s SS13 collection really brightened up a dreary Sunday and perfectly encapsulated the vibrancy and fun of a 1960s summer holiday in St. Tropez. Time to get backcombing and practising with the liquid eyeliner.
