London Fashion Week SS13 has finally arrived! I am down this Friday-Sunday for a weekend of up-to-the-minute show reporting, street style, backstage gossip and celebrity spotting and it all kicked off this morning with Antoni & Alison’s SS13 catwalk show.
As the lights dimmed on the catwalk, the show began with a voiceover from both Antoni & Alison, describing their working relationship and their inspiration for their new collection. They described how they constantly endeavour to have both of their inputs on every design, to create dresses because ‘that is the right thing to do’ and to try and use ‘every colour possible’. What followed was exactly this; an array of bright, bold dresses with clashing prints and blobs, swirls and streaks of paintbox colours.
Models walked down to a brass band playing live at the front of the stage as conflicting sounds were played overhead which sounded a little odd but perfectly reflected the clashing prints on the catwalk as well as the separate personalities of the designers. The dresses took all shapes and forms, from maxi to batwing, mini to kimono. The first designs were more muted in colour, featuring charcoal, white and grey streaks, though the designs began to become more vibrant as the show continued. There were reappearing designs on the dresses, such as blobs of neon paint creating bright bows, flashes of checks and cute cherry flower prints.
The shoes were kept simple as all models wore low-heeled black courts with a gold buckle. Make-up was kept nude apart from the eyeshadow which was either vibrant blue or green.
If Antoni & Alison’s SS13 show is anything to go by, it seems that next season will feature an array of colours, prints and designs where clashing and embracing individual style is definitely ‘the right thing to do’.
