Fabulous and Fifty

17 Jul

It was my mum’s 50th birthday on Monday so we had a weekend of partying in style! On Saturday we had friends and family over for some champagne before all heading off to an Italian restaurant nearby for dinner, drinks and dancing! (Oh and a Robbie Williams impersonator too). It was a really fun, if messy night! I wore a black maxi dress from Missguided with a slit up one side (Millie Mackintosh has the grey version I believe) teamed with some nude wedge sandals from Select.

My mum then joined me in London on Tuesday for a day of sightseeing, afternoon tea and cocktails! We spent the morning looking around Camden locks, wandering down the Thames and around the Strand and accidentally turning up at St. Paul’s Cathedral, all before heading to the amazing Sanderson Hotel for the ‘Mad Hatters Tea Party’ Afternoon Tea. It was a really amazing hotel; the lobby had modern quirky furniture and the Afternoon Tea was held in the beautiful outside courtyard area. The ‘Mad Hatters Tea Party’ is obviously based on Alice in Wonderland so all of the food was themed; there were cute ‘Eat Me’ strawberry mousse hearts, kitsch ‘Drink Me’ pudding potions and chocolate cakes with clocks on the front, as well as finger sandwiches, scones with jam/clotted cream, unlimited pots of tea and a complimentary glass of champagne. The staff were all friendly and helpful and were kind enough to offer us more complimentary champagne when my mum found a stray hair in one of her chocolate cake clocks (which they replaced with two more). For a special treat or occasion, I really couldn’t recommend this enough.

The colourful bread included spinach bread and saffron bread which were delicious!

Afterwards we ambled down Oxford Street trying to walk the calories off, before having a final drink in Dirty Martini in Hanover Square, which runs a Happy Hour between 5pm-10pm on weeknights. Overall, a very successful birthday!
