Mascara Matters

8 Nov

So I tried out the Clinique High Impact Mascara (RRP £14.50) this morning and am fairly impressed with the results.

Good points:

It dries quickly, meaning that one coat makes eyes instantly black without being too runny and printing on your eyelid.

It separates lashes and doesn’t clump them together.

It does make lashes look slightly thicker.

Bad points:

You would need quite a few coats to make eyelashes look more dramatic for nights out, and even then it still doesn’t quite seem to have enough impact for me.

It is no better nor worse than some other (cheaper!) brands out there.

Trying out the free Clinique sample inspired me to focus on mascaras; as a self-confessed mascara addict I have spent a lot of money trying to find the one that will achieve really dark, large looking eyelashes and have wasted a lot of money!

My two favourites would be Benefit’s Bad Gal Lash Mascara (RRP £14.50) and L’ancome Hypnose mascara (RRP £20 though at the moment some department stores are doing a boxset of the mascara, eye make-up remover, and eyeliner for £20).

The Bad Gal Lash really does make your eyes look thicker and bigger after just one coat and so the price seems entirely justified. As you do not need to apply so many coats, it also means that the tube will last for a lot longer than some high street brands. The only issue is the massive brush which can be tricky to use!

Bad Gal Lash Mascara

L’ancome is considered a classic and has a lovely consistency that does not ever go sticky or clumpy. (This could be down to some of the ingredients contained that are supposed to nourish and moisturise your eyelashes.) It has a smaller brush than the Bad Gal Lash which means it seems to separate and lengthen rather than volumise.

Lancome Hypnose mascara

When I am on a tight budget I always opt for the Miss Sporty Mascara (a mere  £1.99 from Superdrug)! It does not volumise as much as I would like, but it is ideal for daytime wear and you can’t complain at the price!

The worst mascara I have tried would have to be YSL Everlong Lengthening Mascara (RRP £21.50). I turned magpie when I saw the classy gold tube and whilst it started off fairly well, within a week the brush had turned into a stiff, clumped mess. One word: Gloppy!  Definitely not worth this price tag.

YSL Mascara a week in: gloppy brush!
